TREKKING
The territory of Finale Ligure “outdoor” is full of paths and trails suitable for everyone, from those who want to take a walk to discover its wonders, to top athletes.
We’re showing you three suggestions particularly striking with a hiking degree of difficulty, requiring normal equipment and that you can make throughout the year with some extra caution during the hot summer periods.
THE DISCOVERY OF THE “ALTOPIANO DELLE MANIE”
Overlooking the sea admire vineyards in the “red earth” clay that currently produce excellent wine, holm oak groves, fields, caves and ancient churches, Roman bridges. You will see the flight of the peregrine falcon, the Lacerta ocellata and enjoy the beautiful blue-violet bloom campanula isofilla, endemic species of the Finale stone, a pink limestone that gives shape to the territory. Along the way you will see numerous cliffs that offer climbers from around the world a magnificent rock on which they are equipped thousands of ways. A fascinating journey into an ancient land, already inhabited in prehistoric times and well populated by the Romans.
ALONG THE ROAD OF THE QUEEN, AMONG THE RUINS OF THE MARQUIS “DEL CARRETTO”
The road Beretta, so called from the name of the designer, the military engineer Gaspare Beretta, went into operation in 1666 on the occasion of the passage in Finale of the Infanta of Spain, Margaret, daughter of Philip IV, traveling to Vienna to marry the Emperor Leopold of Austria. The first section of this ancient way of communication, whose middle name was “street of the Queen”, is now a hiking trail that goes from the enchanting Finalborgo which was the capital of the Del Carretto from 1400-1748 to the inland. The route passes by the seventeenth-century Castel San Giovanni, past the imposing ruins of “Castel Gavone” with the elegant Torre dei Diamanti, climb until Perti with his “Church of the five bell towers” and proceeds in suspended Montesordo valley to the meadow of Pian Marino, magnificent valley surrounded by karst forests and limestone walls offers views of wild valleys dominated by oak forests and cliffs and a small deviation permits to visit the ruins of the “Castrum Perticae” Roman and the church of S. Antonino in its crypt there is a cave.

CLIMBING
Finale is very popular in Europe and in the world for its high concentration of cliffs. The limestone rock formations spread out for about 10 sq km, 50 km linear, giving rise to plateau and walls: more than 170 sectors for almost 3000 routes equipped and located throughout the territory. The paths are above all on the vertical wall, but there are also plaques, cliffs, some roof and they cover all levels of difficulty and enjoy a mild climate even in winter.
In the historic center of Finalborgo you can find the Office of Finale Guides, reference point for outdoor activities related to the “vertical world” and beyond…
